1. I think Thomas Jefferson did not keep his promise towards the Cherokees because the U.S. government and the whites wanted the Cherokees rich land, their wood, oil, and crpos.


2. Some examples of how the Chrokees became acculturated was: that they adapted their government to the U.S. model of government, build schools, and some became Christians.


3. The indians had lost ninety million acres of reservation land. The Dawes severalty stated stated that, after each Indian had received their allotment, it was declared "surplus land" and the land that the Indiand did no use was sold to non-Indians. The land that was sold to them was poor and not good for farming.


4. Cheif Joseph is the leader of The Nez Perce, he was furious because they agreed to move to a reservation in 1855,but were later told to leave when gold was discovered there. "Joseph outsmarted the government soldiers over and over again with his superior military tactics".Captain Jack engaged in the U.S. Army because they were forced onto a reservation in Oregon to live with old tribal enemies who continued to torment them.


5. The constitution said that Native Americans land will be respected, but those rights were not respected because Andrew Jackson as the president over ruled that law because he and the whites wanted their land and researches like oil,wood, and the crops so he took it from them.


6. If I were an Indian ordered to move west, I would fight for my rights. I would go to the court and say that "we are being kicked out of our property", and in the constitution it said that "land will not be taken from Indians without their consent,"because I wouldn't want my family to have to go through all that suffering.
